ICTE
HISTORY
Founded in 1983, the annual Conference alternates each year between
a location in North America and one in Europe. Recent locations have been Fort Worth,
Texas (1987); Edinburgh, Scotland at the University of Edinburgh (1988); Orlando, Florida
(1989); Brussels, Belgium (1990); Toronto, Ontario (1991); Paris (1992); Cambridge,
Massachusetts at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1993); London (1994); and
Orlando, Florida (1995).
The Conference has grown from the early Conferences of two to three hundred
attendees primarily from the southern and western United States, to a truly international
meeting. In 1988, the first annual Conference outside the United States was held in the
Spring, at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. The strong success of the Edinburgh ICTE
led to the establishment of the practice of alternating Conference sites between North
America and Europe. The 13th Annual Conference in Orlando in March, 1995 was attended by
1,205 attendees from 47 nations.
